Website is: 86MB in size and it has 102 pages.

So I created a text document of 160 flowed pages and 160,000 words. It is only 400kB.

A Search and Replace of 2,000 words took 30 seconds.

The delay in adding new letters for the cursor to catch is is about one second per character.

Autobackup kicked in and took 20 seconds.

Big operations like creating and moving a repelling box took 10-30 seconds "Updating document".

Is this the type of experience you are getting?

Very similar behaviour.

To rule out my desktop, i tried an a laptop and its the same.

Updating hyperlinks takes the longest. Over 30 seconds each time.

What I was trying to establish was that your site had lots of flow between pages like a document or are the web pages effectively standalone?

I'd recommend you split your site down to several subsites, say 10 each averaging 10 pages per subsite.
