Can't repel text

Egg, followed your directions, made text box, cut/copied some text and pics would not repel. Deleted that text, typed new text in and one pic repelled the other didn't. Problem was that 2nd photo was not on same level.

Now have variant problem but will post new thread for that.

I just picked up on this thread. I too, have had difficulty with repelling text under graphics as Jeb reported. I understand the argument regarding text lines vs. text areas and text columns. But in previous versions, text lines would also repel. In fact, since upgrading to version 17, I've revisited some of my older websites that had been built using version 6 and earlier, and they're a mess! I guess I used text lines in them, they repelled beautifully, but now do not using version 17. Either I'm going to have to rebuild these sites to be compatible with version 17, or I'm hoping Xara will correct what I see as a flaw. In the meantime, I've been using a previous version for updating these older sites, and putting up with all the alerts saying I'm out of date, etc.
Frustrated.

STS I would not count on Xara to fix this issue. My advice is use your older version with previous sites and use 17 for new sites.

Or take the time and rework the pages with repelling text.

A bit grim, but probably more realistic.

Thanks gwpriester. I have reworked one site and I guess I'll have to do the rest. Not my idea of fun, but not all that difficult.

@STS, well I have gone all the way back to Xara Xtreme v5.1 and all state the following or similar:

Repelling text objects

You can make any object in Xara Xtreme 5 repel text so that text underneath it automatically flows around the object, instead of appearing underneath it. This makes it easy to lay out pages containing long passages of text combined with photos and graphics. Once you've set them to repel, you can adjust the positions of your graphics and photos and the text will automatically adjust and reflow around them.

Making an object repel
To make an object repel text, select the "Repel text under..." option in the Arrange menu to bring up the repelling properties dialog. Or right click on the object and select the same option in the right-click menu.

If desired, set a repel margin for the object. This determines the size of the margin between the edges of the object and the text that it repels. To close the dialog and turn on the repel text option click on "Repel".

To turn off repelling simply bring up the repelling properties dialog for the object and click on "Don't repel". Note that repelling text objects only repel text that is underneath the objects, not any text that is on top.
Note that single lines of text do not respond to repelling objects, only text areas and text columns do.
Note that you cannot make an object both repelling and anchored. If you apply both to an object, anchoring takes priority and the repelling attribute of the object is ignored (it will not repel).
