    Default Gloster Whittle

An old one of the Gloster Whittle. First flown in 1941, two produced, used in Whittle jet engine refining and flight control development. First British jet plane.

Another stunning drawing - amazing colours. On Friday The Red Arrows flypast for VE75 went over us, a wonderful sight (and sound!)

    lovely

I have a soft spot for the whittle - I was given a model of it as a child by an uncle who worked at Hawker Siddeley Brough, and remember my grandfather laughing when I wrote it as Gloucester Whittle and say they changed the name of the Company to Gloster because no one outside of the Uk could pronounce Gloucester correctly - he could remember the company when it was The Gloucestershire Aircraft Company Limited... I'm giving my age away, I'll stop now...

Thanks Joe, Gary, Paul, Penny O'Rorke, handrawn for leaving a comment.
Penny O'Rork, lucky you. I think it will be a while before we see airshows again.

my grandfather was in the Royal Naval Air Service in WW1 flying airships from the Orkney Islands over the Atlantic - a world away from the stereotypical WW1 trenches, but stlll very very dangerous...
