Not sure how file size of gif would compare with mp4 at the end but yeah plenty of possibilities for the OP to ponder on and try.
I'll see if I can compare an export of the animated gif and an exported mp4 Tom. Of course this won't be definitive, it'll be dependant on the gifs complexity.
