V17 Upgrade

Nothing new I'm a little confused. I opened up Xara V16 this morning and got the nag popup for V17. So I go Help | check for Updates - Get the screen that says no updates. I login to Magix and check my update service and it says I'm good to 7/29/2020. I follow the nag scree link to upgrade and it wants to charge me $129. How do I upgrade to version 17? Thanks.

Do not delete v16.n Check n is 3. If not, insist Xara provide v16.3 for you as well. If it were me, I would Download All from the Local Designs gallery (Such downloads protect you from losing Components after your Update Service expires [https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...pdate-Service] - this takes hours).

Your upgrade to v17.0 will run smoothly but all settings and content download will be locked away in your v16.n so you have to jump through a lot of hoops to effect a simple "upgrade".

If you use the Magix download link use the Trial button and then apply your licence number.
Get your licence number from the Magix Product page you provided above (this info is for others) or in v16.n press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+1 and write down the P3-number from there.

When Xara releases a major version, it (1) fails to advise its Customers directly; (2) Neglects to tell its Customers that the earlier version will not alert them; and, (3) Relies on TG members goodwill rather than acting professionally.

As has been said before, and for the benefit of those who don't realise it, THERE IS NO AUTO UPGRADE/UPDATE FOR MAJOR VERSION NUMBERS. Auto upgrade/update only updates within a version. So 15 to 16 and 16 to 17 etc. etc. will not notify you of an update, and requires a NEW full installation.

@Xara - just to clarify the mess you and Magix drop onto your Customers.



Following this link gives a page: http://www.magix.com/index.php?id=25...isdbze6fnied9t. [I removed the Protocol as I don't want TGers inadvertently spamming Magix (how droll) that I want to upgrade. It is all about getting v17 but only at the expense of updating the Update Service. Nothing whatsoever about updating from v16.n to v17.0 when within the Update Service cover.

At this page, the only onward link is the Extend Update Service button.
This is a blatant abuse as you are coercing your Customers without offering the actual link they require: https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/download/.

really the update service within a version number should notify you when there is a new version if your update service is still active, and advise that you can download it and install it seperately under your existing licence

the notification discussed here is obviously a blanket notification of a new version sent out to all users regardless of their update service status

And what is this crap about not "updating' my software? When I install v17 (was the same with 16) my preferences and default template are not there. Xara and Magix need to get their poop together. I have already been forced to find an alternative web development software and every day move closer to it being my default.

I’m confused as well. I really thought that DPX17 was a completely new version, but I’ve figured out the base name is Designer Pro X, then the versions are dumped onto that. I have X16, so this upgrade is X17. @xara how about calling the product X, then say VERSION 6 upgrade to VERSION 7. Sheesh. Confusing for the average Joe Sixpack.
