    Default Text formatting properties

    I'm new.

Is it possible to amend text to create text formatting, such as embossed, inner glow, outer glow etc? If so, how do I get to the particular info box.

    Thank you

Ross, relatively tricky if you are applying such to a Text Area.

I am sure there are other approaches.
You could create a Text Line and apply a Shadow and offset (0.2, 0.2) px with no Blur or Transparency.
You then copy that and select your new Text Line and Paste Attributes (Ctrl+Shift+A).
I find this limiting as the Shadow is a bitmap.

Ditto with a Glow Shadow for an Outer Glow.
    Again, you can Paste Attributes.

An Inner Glow could be made with the Contour Tool.
This time you would Clone the templated Text Line and retype.

To do similar for a Text Area, I would avoid the Shadow Tool and Clone the text fragment, change colour, add a bit of Feathering and place displaced behind for embossing, behind with an outer contour for a glow and on top with an inner contour for an inner glow.
All a bit messy as you would be fighting alignment issues all the time.

My real fall back is to add a ClassName and apply CSS but that is a different level and it probably not what you are after. simple examples here: https://www.w3schools.com/csS/css3_shadows.asp.

Thank you for the information. I'm not of a standard to do all as yet. Ah well! That text problem appears to be the only limitation in this programme. Everything else looks and feels superb.

I will begin to practice the tutorials tomorrow.

    Regards

Just to be clear, are you talking about display text or a column of text? One of Xara's strengths is applying a variety of effects to text. And even combinations of effects.

And I should point out that any of these effects can be undone and the text can be edited at any point.

You have displayed exactly what I would like to do. How is it done? Is there a video to show the steps.

Makes the programme 100% for me. Still got a long way to go. The text is in the long term project.

Create some text. Experiment with some effects. Don't like the effect. Edit > Undo. Start again.

If there are one or two specific effects you like I can step you though it.
