Xara Desktop applications can Export objects as GIFs.
If you drag one onto your design, it is stored in the Bitmap gallery as a GIF.
When it is then rendered in your published website, it will have been converted to a JPEG or PNG.

If you must have it render as a GIF, you need to create a Placeholder with code:
    <img src="myMustHaveGif.gif" width=100% height=100% />
You need to scale the Placeholder size to that of the GIF's dimensions.

Create a new design document with the GIF added and upload it here.

I have created the placeholder (same size as the gif)

i have selected the placeholder > web properties > placeholder and pasted the code in the body and head section.

Once uploaded the gif (south african flag) displays but it does not move as supposed to: http://nationalglassmafikeng.co.za/

What do you mean by: "Create a new design document with the GIF added and upload it here." ?

Ah, Acorn it is an animated GIF. Not sure if this makes any difference.

I have not used animated Gifs in a long time but I just downloaded one from Gify.com to my desktop, and then dragged and dropped it into a web document and it works fine.

I am using v 16 but I think this capability has been around for many versions.

I've attached the file I downloaded.

So, to confirm, when I drag and drop an animated GIF onto my Xara design page, it creates a Placeholder with "replace with graphic file": name.gif.
This action rendered the animated on a web page.

It additionally creates a HTML Preview file to "colour" the Placeholder and this is saved into the Bitmap gallery as a JPEG/PNG.

The same happens with File > Import.

@JuanSA - can you now see what you need to do?

    Thanks @Acorn and @gwpriester

I dragged and dropped and it works perfectly.

Previously i copied and pasted the file into the design page. That was creating the animated gif not to work.
