    Default Inner & Outer Shadows

Is it possible to create this, without resorting to converting some part of it, into bitmap?

Falling into the 'graphically challenged' species I'm not even sure of the criteria, but the R is text and the effects are shapes, shadows and transparencies.

I'm reasonably pleased with myself, except for the circled bits where I have no clue.

clip view would probably sort that

the question may be though - can it be exported as pure vector ?

    I would have my doubts

If you're aiming at Rik I'm sure you'll receive an intelligent answer. If you're aiming at me you'll have to dumb it down quite a few steps. What's Clip View, and how do I export as Pure Vector?

I'm at the 'walking-with-furniture' stage with my graphics growth.

I feel much the same way re websites

clipview is when you use the boundaries of one object, in this case the letter R, to curtail/mask/truncate the visibility of another that is 'embedded within' it

Export as PDF, which is what i use for vectors, would not handle the transparency/feather as vector, so i would be inclined to say no, but I have [frequently] been wrong before

The Clip View is when you select all the objects and keyboard Q?
I exported as PDF 300dpi and it looks the same to me.

import it back into a new xara document and see what you get - PDF is an adobe based open standard, it does not use the same 'syntax' as xara for vector for several things

q - yes, the clipping object need to be at the bottom of the stack you are clipping

you could cross check the vector with SVG and AI export

Here is the process I used.

Importing the PDF back into Xara = dogs breakfast.
Clipping object at bottom of stack - something new I've learned and also answers why elements sometimes magically disappeared when using it. Thank you for the education.

10 steps and nice and neat. I didn't count my steps, but it was a lot more than that and would be best described as Eclectic Abstract Surrealism in it's construction.
I had fun, learnt a few things and exercised my grey matter. Thanks Rik.

if you count shadows made with shadow tool as shape vector...

then you could possibly clone the R, apply shadow, convert to editable shape, ungroup, subtract shapes and then intersect out only the part of the shadow you need for the right hand side of the R

    very rough and ready:

    possibly.xar

but as you see, there is a bitmap in the gallery that is the shadow shape over[under?]lay - xara calles it a shape, and it behaves like one, but not a 'true' vector..
