"Around the world, about six trillion cigarettes are still made every year. Put them end to end, and every four months you'd have one long enough to reach the Sun." That's quite shocking! I wonder if that figure actually works out? (distance from earth to sun 149.6 billion m / length of king size cigarette 84mm)

A lot of effort to get a light! Using the Sun gives out 3.828 x 10^26 Watts. A match is around one Watt. To think that at 92.955 million miles (149.6 million kilometres) away, I could use a magnifying glass and focus the sunlight to light a ciggie!

"six trillion cigarettes" is about 800 for each living person annually or three-a-day. Glad I don't smoke.

    Who's got my cigarettes though?

I do like "back of the fag packet" calculations.

I should think I've had your share. Thankfully I haven't smoked for over thirty years, but used to puff about 20 a day (7000+ a year) - French ones too mostly - Disque Bleu, Gitanes, etc.
