    Default Pride of Lemont

The SK-3 was built for mechanic, Rudy A. Kling from Lemont, Illinois as his personal racing aircraft. The Menasco C6-S was modified by Kling to produce 400 hp , and could attain over 300 mph. Kling only had 150 hours of flying time. He won the 1937 Greve race and the 1937 Thompson trophy. He crashed in the 1938 Miami air races killing him at the age of 29.

Nice. The rendering, not Mr. Lemont's untimely demise.

    Beautiful job Graham.
Were the air races in that day dangerous I mean did the those planes all take to the air at the same time and race? Unlike today where only one plane flies the course at a time?

    Thanks Gary, Larry, Boy.
Larry they used to have two types of racing. One was cross country, the other was pylon racing. In Pylon racing they raced as a group.
I'll include the Xara wire frame and the original 3D wireframe below that I used to get the basic shape for the drawing from.

Just doesn't seem good enough to say, 'beautiful, as ever'.

Thanks gray. Must have been pylon racing I heard had been so dangerous.
