Default I want to add shadows to text styles -- HOW?

    ok -I can:
    1. edit a style
    2. add a shadow to text
    3. copy text and just past the shadow via paste format

but why must be so hard??
how can he shadow be part of the edited style?

    and/or
copy format painter brush like in WORD
or a repeat last action key

I have moved this to Dear Xara, the appropriate forum for bugs and feature requests.

There is a two step way to do this, and this is a work around and not an excuse.

Create a rectangle with the color and shadow style you want.

Select your text and apply the appropriate style.

Then select the rectangle with the shadow. Copy to the clipboard, select the text and Edit > Paste > Paste Attributes.

TD, I have always used Paste Attributes for text as Gary described.

You can choose a Letter and style it or a Shape. Both approaches offer different effects.
Meaningful settings cover Line Width, Colour, Font Size, Shadow, Fill, Feather & Transparency.
Where you have to be careful is some change the lettering into an image when published.

Xara stuck with styling that kept text as text.
There are some stylings that do keep text as a font and perhaps Xara might include these in the future but I suggest they would consider these ideas to be minor improvements.
I would prefer Xara kept working on OpenType enhancements.

Xara Desktop applications (XDA) are not MS Word. Xara could learn from MS, agreed. Just as MS learned from Xara (as Computer Concepts) in how to present text anti-aliased in the first place; even MS then got it wrong.
XDAs have their own flow to producing graphical solutions. Adding more into menu choices impedes that flow. View XDAs as graphical engines that can handle text and you will go a long way.

On your other ask about a Repeat Last Action key, can you define exactly what operations you might want to apply?
My preference would be to have access to the Action History List and be able to clone sections of that and apply; far more powerful.
Nonetheless, it is amazing what you can do with a few simple tools like Paste (Attributes), clone and good use of meta-keys.

    thanks for the reply(s)
sure -- I can copy the attributes to EACH AND EVERY instance of my TEXT
    (as already learned to do)
not sure why some suggest my request to make life easier is without merit
remember the days before Ctrl C and Ctrl V
imagine if the coders said = why are you too lazy to hit edit/copy or edit/paste
and if style can include color, font, and size, etc
why not include attribute - DUH

I have moved these comments to Dear Xara where one hopes they come to the attention of the development team. My feeling is if this were easy and not in conflict with other features it would have been done.

TD, it need only be Copy once and select all text blocks required and Paste once.

You have failed to appreciate adding all the capabilities that you, or others might use, would change the text to a graphic.
If the end result is still a font than I am for it.
