Default Nivo slider frustrations - change from landscape layout

One of the few things that really niggle me with Xara is a lack of a good slideshow gadget.
Sure there are a few but none that compare to what you can get with Wordpress.
Anyway, I have a site www.motherofthebrideoutfits.co that I'm developing for showing new fashion styles for 2020. As you'll see on the present site there needs to be a good deal of things to change but the main part of the site is really for showing a multitude of pictures of dresses and outfits for mother of the bride and groom.

I feel that having too much text on the site is distracting from the aim of showing what we sell so want to make it even more slideshow oriented. The static pictures don't really do us justice and a professional looking slideshow should be better.

HOWEVER, although I prefer Nivo for this, I just can't get my head around how to add the pictures then have them show in the original orientation instead of landscape. In the default addition the landscape inclusion cuts off the top and bottom of each picture and is useless to me.

I do what it says on the gadget instructions. I just drag and drop the multiple pictures onto the first image and it fills up the remainder of the pages BUT ALL IN LANDSCAPE ------ AARRRGGHHHHHHH
Is there some way to change this before importation so that they all come over in the correct orientation?

Of course someone else may have a better idea on how to show off the pictures???????

Info Re: Nivo slider frustrations - change from landscape layout

Lynnzer, I have tried to alter the Nivo Widget previously to Portrait, but unsuccessfully.

    I developed two alternatives:
    1. https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...ent-Slideshows
    2. https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...l-using-jQuery.

The second has no pause and only fades but I prefer it.

The first requires you taking your time and effectively building up a slider form Xara nuts 'n' bolts with a dusting of code.

I was not aware of Acorn's solutions (so I have learnt something today, thanks). I opted to use a third party off-the-shelf slider some time ago; choose the WOW slider https://wowslider.com but this was just personal preference. Lots of others (e.g. https://cssslider.com/).

Depending on your design thoughts you could mix and match sliders with video. Slider (book format) and video example: https://theparsonage.co.uk/ and a double slider: https://barnesbowling.org/. The sliders support 'swipe' so they work on tablet and mobile too and in any dimensions of your choosing.

    I'm still struggling with this.
I have found thishttps://www.talkgraphics.com/attachm...6&d=1335450275 and sort of like the look of it but can't see how to use it.
If I change the images then do a preview, it shows the original images. How do the new images get recognised? And how do I add a lot more new images that are 99.9% in portrait dimensions rather than lanscape.
I was hoping to find some sort of Youtube tutorial but nothing seems to pop up on a search

This is one of the simplest uses of pop-up layers going.

The easier way to explain is to talk through adding another image.

    • Create an new layer - pop5 or "Cabbage & Rice Consomme" if that is the photo's topic.
    • Drop you new image into the new layer and resize and position over the black rectangle - more on this later.
    • Clone and scale the latest image down to your thumbnail and round its corners.
    • Place on the MouseOff layer and reposition and scale all the thumbs..
    • Select the thumb and set Web animation > Mouse-over, and set Show pop-up layer to the added layer name.
    • Add an Effect.

There is no need to ruin the Link with # ##, ### or #### as in the example. A # is enough to change the point to a hand. Leave it out otherwise.
The Name "photoreplaced" is not needed either.

For Portrait images, the black box ruins the effect. I would omit it or change it to a line line empty frame that can be cloned and rotated 90 degrees.

I have another alternative. I was searching for something akin to Issuu which was free to use to the extent that I need and found this: https://www.yumpu.com
First you have to create a pdf. I have full page images in hi-res, It's then uploaded to Yumpu where you set the parameters of the production. When it completes, you can obtain the embed code and add it to the site in the usual way via a rectangle.

I have just posted to all of my subscribers to try the magazine version out and it's already got responses. Just to try it as an image carousel sort of thing, I added it to a trial page and ran it. It works a dream. I have a single image per page but I suppose anyone who wants more can add them to a pdf. I made mine using Open Office then saved it as a pdf. Another thought has just arrived. Set your page to landscape in your writer and it'll probably be able to show things better much like a slider

Anyway, the production is as shown in the link.
I did a rush job on this so it isn't as good as I'd like but hey...... Xmas and grand-kids demand more of my time.

Let me know what you think

It's also easy to link it from Facebook for those who like to show a decent number of pictures on a post.
