Default How to convert to gif to transparent png

    Hi All,
I have a small logo from a local drama group but it has a white background and is a gif. I wondered whether anyone could run through a procedure to convert it such that I can use the logo with a transparent background? I have tried a couple of times but it simply doesn't want to play ball. TIA.

Can you post the logo here?

Also can you update your profile to show what product you are using?

If you are using one of the newer versions of Designer or Photo & Graphic Designer, you can use the Select Colors to Enhance (via the Photo Tool), click on the white area, then right click on the little red dot and select Make Transparent.

If the logo is small and low resolution this may or may not product a good effect. But it is worth a try.

Trace the non-white areas of the logo, combine all the traced areas into a single object. Select the GIF logo and the traced areas, and Combine/Intersect. Then export to PNG with alpha channel format. While I don't create logos (generally), I convert photos of plants and other objects and convert them to transparent PNG this way, all the time.

Good advice if the logo is simple like my Google logo example. But not always easy if the logo is complex.

Depending on how the logo is layed out another option is to use the erase background option in designer.

I don't do it for logos, I do it for plants like trees - and I'm talking very complex designs, not simple... more like this. I cut this out, because I needed a top down image of a bamboo plant, and used a side view photo, to cut the shape out to work as a top down.

To the left is the original photo, to the right is after I cut out what I wanted, which I made into a transparent PNG file. (I never said it was easy).

HI and thanks for the replies. I am attaching the logo I have been supplied with but will try to pursue the group for a higher definition image too.

black and white is straightforward - give it a multiply transparency

Yeah, Steve's right. Higher resolution will give you better results. Apply a Flat, Multiply (stained glass) transparency. Then right click and select Create Bitmap Copy > True Color + Alpha
