Default Scaling the YouTube Video Widget

    So . . .
Why can't I scale the YouTube widget without it cropping the video?

The thumbnail and the playback will end up cropped when sizing down, or in a frame when sizing up: it won't change the size of the video, just the frame it's in.

(Yes it plays back like that when previewing.)

I am not sure what is happening but I just copied the embed code for a Simon's Cat episode and used the Paste > Paste HtML Placeholder command to paste it into my web page.

Then I edited the Widget to change the size and it worked fine.

So, you might want to try that.

    Interesting!

    How does one edit it?

Very new to Xara and I'm not sure how to access or change the HTML of the widget.

I also know just about nothing when it comes to code, but I assume you just change the width and height to the desired dimensions.

Side Note: Seems like the code you pasted is visible in the mobile version of the forum, but not the desktop version.

    Strange . . .

I pasted the link but then deleted it.

Right click on the placeholder and select Edit Widget.

You will have to do the math to scale down the image. But replace the width and height in the HTML Body area. (see attachment)

The only thing I retained from Algebra is the equation to scale an object. Cross multiply (in this example 559 x 640) and divide by 993. Your numbers will vary.

But this should scale the video to your dimensions.

    Very well done.

    Thank you.

    I found that dividing the larger number by the smaller one, the answer will become an aspect ratio, {in my case the quotient is 1.7777 repeating}

1.7777 to 1 is commonly known as 16x9, it's the format for most YouTube videos.

Just multiply the smaller number by 1.7777, and you'll have a correct scale; just round to the nearest whole number.

This can be used to find the aspect ratio of any normal rectangle.

    Noticed an issue.

It scaled down the player, but not the bounding boxes.

There seems to be some kind of beveled shadow effect where the player used to fill.

    No matter,

    I fixed it.

Not sure why, but embedding my images and videos in my posts is not working right for me.

    Este es no bueno.

It's far from straight forward to attach a file here on TG. You need to go to Reply to Thread (or start a New Thread) type in some content and then click Go Advanced. Then scroll down and click Manage Attachments. Then Add files. Then click Browse (or Drag & Drop file on this window). Click Upload. Click Done. Submit Reply. Hardly intuitive
