    Default Lippisch P.12 X-Plane

From the old files with a few updates. Lippisch designed the ME163 Comet, this was one of his other designs that would have used a single turbojet instead of a rocket motor.

Thanks, Mark. This design never left the drawing board.

Great drawing Gray. If that was flying today I'm sure it would have been reported as "I've just seen a UFO"

As usual I love it. Too bad it never got off the drawing board. Probably difficult to fly a design that is only a design on paper.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.

The plane is very similar to the ME163 Comet (with a different propulsion method, the wings are enlarged to a familiar v-wing shape) which did go into limited production and was the fastest aircraft in service during WW2. The Comet had a number of challenging issues - dangerous on take-off, dangerous on landing, it's high speed meant shooting at allied planes was a problem ( it didn't take long for the plane to cover the range of the guns, so little time to aim accurately).

The Germans were superb engineers. Still are.

Stygg, I think they called UFO's Foo fighters back then when they didn't recognize them.
Larry, I think they were dangerous aircraft to fly, especially the rocket powered ones of the time.
Paul, good description of the Comet. Many of the German aeronautical designs ended up in 50's jets in other countries after the war, like the wings on the F86 Sabre.
    Thanks all.
