I purchased Publisher and like what I see, especially at that price.

I broke down and purchased Affinity Publisher and installed it and I have looked at some of the videos. It seems well thought out and handsomely designed with a wealth of features and controls including master pages with left and right pages independent of one another. Designer Pro has some serious catching up to do.

Also purchased Publisher. I'm very impressed with being able to switch seamlessly between Publisher, Designer and Photo all within the one app.

Sad to say, but they Serif have done it right. They did not just stick on new features with duct tape. I will probably continue to publish in Xara in spite of its shortcomings because I can do it in my sleep. But Affinity have certainly set the bar very high. I get the feeling that they understand the entire publishing process and have designed a product around that knowledge.

That said, does anybody know how to get a spread to display as a spread and not as a single page?

In Document Setup (right above Master Pages when nothing selected) or when creating a New Document it lets you check Facing Pages.

    Basically what Egg is showing

Me too. The StudioLink technology was quite a surprise announcement. I was always a bit confused opening the same file from within Designer into Photo, and then back again. Now it's seamless, and almost instant. Clever stuff!

I think the lack of e-pub is a disadvantage, but hopefully that will come through soon
