OK, I think this will work. Select the Text Tool and don't click on the page.
Set the line spacing as you want (and it does not have to be percent by the way). Then switch to the Selector Tool by pressing F2.
That said, I think this will only work for the current session. I tried saving a template with that setting and it seems to default to 100% the next time you open a new document.

Thank you Gary, will try that. Ok tried it and saved as a template. Opened a template and it jumped back to 120%
I have to say that 120% is a STUPID default for text. Why not default to 100% of what the original font designer thought appropriate?

Could you setup text styles to control the leading you require?
I think 120% has been, and still is, the default starting value for programs like InDesign and MS Word.

Gary can you kindly move this to Dear Xara. Designers need to choose what they want.
As Jono states, set up the text style
Write some text in Normal Text.
Select all this text
Change Line Spacing 100%
This Normal Text will become Normal Text +
Update Normal Text to Match
Delete this text and Save as Template
When you open a new page based on this template the Line Spacing for Normal Text will be 100%

Hi Egg,
I've just tried saving as a template, but when I deleted the styled text and saved, it also removed the style. Maybe because the program thinks it hasn't been used, a bit like removing unused named colours.
Leaving some of the styled text somewhere on the pasteboard or page does keep the style.
Is that the same for you?

Yes that is what happened to me too.
