    My daughter did distance education and we started using websites as a way for her to express herself (she doesn't speak)...the 'hobby' stuck.

    It certainly does. I can remember struggling for months trying to coax and bully a spark of enthusiasm from her like it was only last week.

    A pivotal point was when she wrote things on separate pages instead of one wall of text, essay style. Gluing the pages together to make a site kept the interest going and added a touch of fun. She rarely achieved any grades as her work didn't follow the criteria, but she had a drive and purpose for a year or so.
