    Default Does Xara use php?

First of, I'm not overly technical.

My web-hosting company has suddenly started charging me US$8.71 a month for php support, without me asking for it.

Does Xara use or need php? I have WD11 Premium.

From what I can make out, my account is setup to use php 5.6, but it's apparently outdated, so now I'm being charged for additional support.
The web-host has listed all my domains as using php 5.6 - even those that are not even being used, but registered with the web-host.

Am I being taken for a ride, or is "php extended support" necessary?

I'm not certain, but I do not think Xara supports PHP. There are ways to implement PHP but not natively.

So, it sounds like your web host is not being honest and perhaps it is time to bid them adieu and move on to a more honest web host.

A standard Xara website doesn't need any PHP but Xara does allow you to add PHP-supported functionality (such as an .htaccess file). So, the question is whether you added such extra functionality to your website at some point in time. You can check this in your browser: if the extension of your website's pages is .php rather than .htm (or .html), your website is configured to use PHP functionality.

They're all .html files, so I'm obviously not using php.
    Thanks for the info.

If when you Export locally and your website runs as expected then you have no need for PHP.
Look for another provider or decline the "extended php support". Even if you later add in some PHP, it will still function.

I've since spoken to 1&1 (my web-host) I asked why they charged me for this service I didn't request. They said they added PHP support "in case one of my websites required it".
I told them I don't need it and asked them to remove it from my billing and give me a credit for the one they've just billed me for.
They agreed they would. I'll wait and see.

While you are waiting, perhaps you could wire me a few thousand. Just in case!
