    Pauland, back when I did this about 14 years ago I used one of the photo's I took of this plane at a local air museum as a reference for the drawing. Using a photo as a reference makes drawing the plane an easy task, but prevents you from being more creative. Using photo's for reference is common among both traditional and digital artists. Shortly after this work I decided that using photo references for my main subjects was very limiting and not the way to go. So after that I created everything from scratch. When you create it yourself you don't have all those little reflections and nuances you get by looking at photo references. So there is a whole new level of difficulty to understand. Another positive is you don't have to worry that someone has taken the time to find the photo you used if you got it from the internet. I've seen that happen with both traditional and digital artists. It can end up with an embarrassing situation and copyright problems. So for this drawing, the plane was drawn using my own photo as reference and the background was drawn from scratch. So my advice to anyone interested in drawing digital creations is create them, don't copy them.
