Removing backgrounds from pictures

The free service returns only low-res results. Their subscription scheme allows for HD images and the use of an API.

If the color range is fairly tight, say sky, you can use the Photo Tool > Select Colors to Enhance.

Or you can use magic eraser in Photoshop to remove the background.

Pauland - I still do it that way. Trace an image and delete portions I'm not using. Through those service companies that remove backgrounds on photos in situations where singular strands of hair can be kept while background are removed have some utility, but as others have mentioned, it's not free. Rather than paying someone else anything, I just spend the time needed to cut the backgrounds myself using Xara.

I'm sure there are some YouTube videos showing how to remove backgrounds using Xara. I can't remember the guys name that shows how but somewhere I have his vids.

What I find interesting is they have fine tuned this for skin and hair. I uploaded a brownish croissant on a peacock blue plate, and it said could not process the image! Then I uploaded a photo of a teenage boy with red hair against a winter forest background and it did a splendid job.
