Removing backgrounds from pictures

There are various services to help you remove the background of portrait pictures but I really like this one: https://www.remove.bg.

The main page on the site says it is free but under pricing there are monthly pricing plans and I do not see free option. Can you give us a little more information?

Usually apps that say free, are free to try. They add a watermark that only goes away when you pay for the product.

How times have changed. In days of old ten people would have described how to cut out objects from the background by drawing a shape to cut out the subject.

The free service returns only low-res results. Their subscription scheme allows for HD images and the use of an API.

I wonder how the program determines what is foreground and what is background.

Isn't there a plugin somewhere that does this?

If the color range is fairly tight, say sky, you can use the Photo Tool > Select Colors to Enhance.

Or you can use magic eraser in Photoshop to remove the background.

Pauland - I still do it that way. Trace an image and delete portions I'm not using. Through those service companies that remove backgrounds on photos in situations where singular strands of hair can be kept while background are removed have some utility, but as others have mentioned, it's not free. Rather than paying someone else anything, I just spend the time needed to cut the backgrounds myself using Xara.
