Default converting photo to a black white img with transparent background image

    Hi Folks,

Now I have found big, at least for me, issue because i used it frequently in designer prox10 but it won't work in designer prox16 shame and bad!

1 as on enclosed image i used to take a photo (on the left)
2 then with SATURATION, BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST,
changed the image to grey scale img than with contrast and brightness to a black & white image.
3 now to clear white from the img i used the menu EDIT and with function COPY CLIPPED PHOTO i have
copied the black & white image
4 after that still in menu EDIT i used the function PASTE > PASTE OPACITY MASK IN PLACE that made the
black´&white image to erase all black color from the img
5 now with the new img with black kolor transparent i have just choose the black color a with LMB to make
the transparent back black and the white background automatically became transparent
Voila the new black image with transparent backgroung is done - BUT!

in new prox16 - it does not work!!!
here i take the freedom to swear - what the [deleted by moderator] did xara folks do to the great software xara nothing of importance seem to work in the latest version - God damned!

as xara folks does not care much of us my only hope is that you folks ordinary user like me has any idea ifwhat i have just decribed is possible to do with prox16
i enclose the image on the example if somebody would try to do what i could not manage in prox16

i am devastated about what xara has become from great graphics software to a piece of almost useless software.

    cheers
    Pawel

I'm not sure if this is what you want but here is what I did.

I took your photo and made a copy at 300dpi (it is better to start with high resolution photo)

I used the Photo Tool > FX > Color > Threshold to achieve the black and white. Experiment with the Threshold settings to make more or less black.

    I applied a Flat, 0% Multiply transparency.

Not an operation I would do in xara, but I would agree with Gary that his method should work [subject to the export limitations of multiply transparency mode, which may be called stained glass in older versions of the program

    Create a bitmap copy.

my memory says that a bitmap copy with alpha may not resolve the alpha issue on export with alpha, but i'd need to check

hi handrawn thanks for your message actually in prox10 it is very easy to do.
    try this:
1 import a photo jpeg png etc
2 make it grey scale with saturation button
3 make it two/thre colors with brightness and contrast buttons
4 copy the image with EDIT > COPY PHOTO se enclosed img
5 paset the copyed imgae with EDIT > PASTE OPACITY MASK IN PLACE see enclosed img
6 while the pasted mask active choos the color black with LMB on color scale
7 done all background is clear and the image is black easy as that
i am so pissed off you can't imagine as for some fucked reason sombody at xara just thrown a way the great function and devastated prox16
    what do you say?

Apply Multiply transparency. Then make a PNG + Alpha bitmap.

You can also use Photo Tool > Select Colors to Enhance (top right of screen). Click on the white. Then right click and select Make Transparent.

There are sliders for Tolerance and Fade. Experiment with these.
