Default Color book produced with Designer Pro X 16

My wife takes a lot of photos with her iPhone. She texts one photo each morning to a small group of friends as a way of checking in. We decided to take some of these photos and create a small color book, called Good i, a take off on the phrase "good eye" that is often applied to artists and photographers who know just how to frame an image.

We self published the book in color with KDP (Amazon, formerly CreateSpace). The color was surprisingly good, though the price per copy, $20, is a bit steep for such a small book (96 pages). We previewed the color cover both in matte and gloss and went with glossy. The matte looks great but tends to smudge if you rub the cover against anything. And there is only one choice of text paper. It's bright white but there is a little show through. A heavier of coated text paper would have been preferable.

We made the photos small to represent the size they appear in a smart phone.

All and all it was a fun project and we plan to do more.

    Hi Gary,
    nice project, nice idea.
For me as Book-Designer is the question – WHY – the pics are so small. There is enough space and white space too. The newadays phones have pics resolution about 10 MPX. So no needs to shrink it in to a stamp format.

Ok an other thing: I got a printsupporter where the first ex. is for free. So if You need to design an other book feel free to contakt me for a free printed version. Only shipping cost is from Germany on Your side.

    Cheers Ernie

Hi Ernie - The client (my wife Mary) wanted the images to be about the same size as they are on her iPhone screen. They definitely could be bigger, but she wanted them this size. And I am just the designer. :-)

Ah, now is all clear. It's like me if my wife is my client.

Ah, now is all clear. It's like me if my wife is my client.
But in this case the client has all the talent. She is a designer, painter, and an award-winning author. So, it's hard for me to argue.

I have designed her four books in Xara and I am about to start new next novel.
