    Default Gaps on booleans

    Hi,

There seems to be a problem with booleans leaving a visual gap even if there isn't
Here's an example with two black squares intersected (Xar file attached) ->

Also when a shape is cut, it produce a slight outline ->

It is quite annoying when outputting bitmaps.
When opened in other software the gaps doesn't appear.

This behaviour appeared recently, I don't know in which version.

    Thanks,

    Marc

MarcT, I've gone back as far as v11 and the artefact appears on them all.

All I can think is the shapes and the cut are not exact pixels or aligned on whole pixels when rendered as images.

it is a visual artifact caused by xara's anti-aliasing - if you drop the view quality down to 'full colour' it should disappear

it is possible exact pixel positioning may help in some instances....

    Hi Steve,

That's very interesting, sliding the view quality to the middle does make the artifact dissapear.
What's most incredible is that bitmap export are also generated without those gaps.

So that will be a workaround for exporting, I just wonder if the slider will affect other aspects also.

    Thanks,

    Marc

    AFAIK:

full colour view turns off the anti-aliasing; the gap you see is not really a gap, it is an 'interference pattern' resulting from the way antialiasing is applied during the slice/intersect operation; so turing off anti-aliasing 'removes' the effect which is purely visual

so it would therefore follow that exporting an object as a bitmap when in full colour view, would export it 'without' antialiasing - but I have not done this for far too long to remember for sure

^ This is correct. It's probably one of the oldest "bugs" we have.
