Default Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10

windows photo viewer is a dll not an app, and in current clean install windows 10 it is only associated with TIFF files

being a dll file you cannot just [re]associate file types to it in the windows 10 UI, it needs a registry patch to do this; once done you get back the wpv

why would I do this? - because the windows 10 photo app:

    does not show alpha
does not loop through the files repeatedly
does not [necessarily] sort in the order the files are in [and the patch restores this in wpv]

but that aside it just does not handle some files well - here is an example of pencil sketch PNG:

I have more pencil sketch references like this than you could shake a forest full of sticks at

    cool... not

Windows 10, however, does not have Windows Photo Viewer installed.
You would have to do some registry editing to use it.

yes Rik, registry editing [patch] - that is one of the points I was making

I used this one, option 2.3:

as I particularly wanted to get back the 'view files in the same order as they are arranged in the folder' capability as well...

    I definitely read your post.
    But, clearly missed that point!

Steve: Why do you prefer 'Windows Photo Viewer', instead of the default 'Photos'?

well Rik, expanding on the OP:

if I have asset in a different alpha state wpv will show me the difference - 'photos' won't:

Size:	114.7 KB
ID:	123517

[and thats besides the afore mentioned degredation of line]

also when I use the cursor keys to go through a sequence of asset files [say for animation] I usually want to sequence in the order they were created, not in name order [sometimes that is the same thing, but in my case often not] - the photo app does not appear to do this, even when they are sorted that way in a folder [and in that respect it is not alone amongst some of the free viewers I have tried in the past]

and finally, again, if you are running through an animation sequence say, looping the files continuously is very handy indeed
