    Default Optimising Images

When using 'Utilities > Optimise All Images' Xara says something about restarting the program to clear the memory. Does optimising only help with image sizes within the program itself, or does it also help to load the hosted pages as well?

I nearly always manually resize my larger images, then export, then import them at their new size. Is this the accepted method, or is there a more efficient way that I'm unaware of?

If I remember correctly, it only optimizes the images that are included in the .xar/.web file and not those in your actual website.

That's what I thought too as the total size of the finished site remains roughly the same as before optimising. I wasn't sure as Xara exports the same image twice, adding the @2x in the (presumed) original file name. Although that could be something completely different; I'm not fluent in the dark arts.

The @2x images are for hi-res devices.

The message you refer to says that the original non-optimized images will remain in Xara until you close and restart the application. This has nothing to do with the optimized images on your web page. But until you restart the original images are still available in the Bitmap Gallery.

The reason you might want to shut down and restart is system memory. If the program is running very slowly because you have a lot of large images then this will help.
