Exclamation Whoa! Tried to upgrade to Xara Designer Pro X and Panda warned of a virus in install.

I decided to take advantage of the offer to upgrade from Web Designer to Designer Pro X. But when I attempted to run the install script, my antivirus program (Panda) issued a virus warning and quarantined the file! I've already paid for the upgrade. I have a support ticket in at Magix, but has anyone else had a problem?

It has been reported before. I will try to get someone from Xara to respond to this.

This sounds odd, I have been away for some time, Due to family matters, but when I saw this pop up in my e-mail, something you may want to check out with https://www.virustotal.com/en/ or use this link https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/upload a very reliable site to check files, but there is a size limit that you can load to be scanned. I to have upgraded to XDP X and it installed with no issues, I have Avast Free, and will be switching to Bitdfender, not sure if Panda saw the install as a false positive.

I just a scan of my install of XDP X (DesignerPro.exe) and these are the results Hope you can see them.

Have tried downloading the install file again, and try installing again after deleting the the install file you first downloaded.

Thanks. As I mentioned, I had a support ticket in with Magix, and they replied this morning with the following explanation:

    ____________________________________________
    Dear customer,

    Thank you for your message.

First of all, please let me assure you that there's absolutely no spyware, or otherwisely malicious software, included in our products or support tools.

Some words of explanation: Sometimes, anti-virus applications, or other security related software, can create false alarms. Over the years, creators of security software have come up with more clever methods to detect and fight malicious software. Anti-virus programs don't just look for already known viruses now, since this is very limiting and can fall short with so many new viruses being released every day. They also use intelligent, heuristic methods now to detect behaviour that might indicate activity of malicious software, e.g. certain system-level operations. Unfortunately, this has the downside, that sometimes the activity of completely legitimate software can be wrongly detected as harmful. This is what happened here. Plus, there's also the possibility that if a security software scans for malware in the "old-fashioned" manner (i.e. searching for specific strings) a legitimate software happens to contain a specific virus signature and is therefore identified as malware.

If you want to read further material on security software in general and false alarms in particular, you can also refer to these independent sources (just a few examples) that are not associated with us:

    http://www.livinginternet.com/i/is_vir_prot.htm
    http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...-detection.htm

I hope you found this information helpful and we could reestablish the relationship of mutual trust that we like to keep with our customers. The practical solution when you're experiencing such a problem is basically to reconfigure the security software in a way that it will not trigger this false alarm or ignore/override the false alarm when it occurs, to the program can carry on with its regular functionality. Please consult the documentation of your security software for more information on this, if necessary.

In more recent Windows versions, we're increasingly experiencing such problems with Microsoft's/Windows' own on-board security functions (e.g. SmartScreen). If this is the case here, you might want to consider a reconfiguration of these components as well:

So, I took a deep breath and removed the install script from quarantine, executed it as administrator, and the installation went smoothly. I thought it very odd that this occurred because I've never had that happen with any previous software installations. I'm about to perform a full virus scan, but so far so good. Thanks for your input.
