    Default External linked images

    Dear Xara,

When are you going to allow Designers to link external images to Xara documents?

Notice that Xara Photo & Graphic Designer uses some sort of external linking
when Designers edit photos and Xara store the original photo inside a Xara
    document.

Experienced Xara users recommend me to use the iframe widget, that could link
to an external image in the internet. In fact, you could add a feature to this
iframe widget and allow linking to local files URLs.

A workaround proposed by another user is to run a local server (like Xampp)
and place my images in the local server folder... but this is a real hassle.

Notice that most Design programs allows linking external files. For example
Adobe Ilustrator, Corel Draw, Affinity Designer, Canvas GFX and even the
    old Macromedia Freehand.

    Thanks in advance!

    Al

Al, you can link to external images with Placeholder > Replace with graphic file.

This does still make the file an internal Xara resource, but does retain the filename.

You can roll your own with a Placeholder body code insert like <img src=http://externalUrlImage.jpg" /> to keep it fully external. You would not really use an IFRAME.

I have tested with a local server and using the url http://127.0.0.1:8080/mytestimage.png
actually works fine and the png appears inside Xara. Works fine for jpg, png and svg.

By the way, Xara uses Microsoft browser for rendering the iFrame
although my default browser is Google Chrome.

How could we change Xara default browser selection to use
the selected browser on our computer?

Hi Capellan, your url link doesn't work

How could we change Xara default browser selection to use
the selected browser on our computer?
Unfortunately you can't, you need to preview in Xara's default IE browser first then select a more up to date browser from the top right buttons. A PIA!

    Further:

    What is 127.0 0.1 8080?
Windows Security is an adware program that will change your proxy settings to 127.0.0.1:8080 to inject advertisements and other unwanted behavior into web pages as you are browsing the web

This is the most common meaning of the ip 127.0.0.1

"127.0.0.1 is the loopback Internet protocol (IP) address also referred to
as the “localhost.” The address is used to establish an IP connection to the
same machine or computer being used by the end-user."

By the way, when I load a 14 MB png image on the Iframe (27 MB decompressed)
Xara stops working. Maybe using an Iframe for linking external images is not
    the best solution after all...

I think the best solution for any web page is not to be loading 14MB images at all.

I have never come across any web page with such a large image. Why is it so big?

In the Placeholder view, untick "Re-generate placeholder image automatically". Xara is trying to create your bitmap of 27MB and failing, possibly due to lack of memory. Every tweak of the Placeholder will create yet another bitmap.

It still doesn't have to be an IFRAME to render an image file.
