    Default Becoming very slow

    HI,
I've been doing some quite complex drawings which have between 5,000 and 15,000 objects.
At this level, I'm finding Xara Designer Pro so slow that it is unusable. For example, it takes 10 minutes to export a 300 DPI JPEG. Just saving the documents takes about 5 minutes. Resizing takes 2-3 minutes.
The CPU meter reads about 20% during the various activities and the RAM usage is not significant. I have a Core i7 with 16 GM RAM and a GTX specialised graphics card in the $3000 laptop I use. I don't think the issue is with the hardware. My workflow is trashed. I've been a Xara fan for a long time, but I may have to go back to Adobe and Corel.
    Any ideas?

it isn't likely to be your hardware unless you are running an old 32bit vrsion of windows - xara is not one of those programs that can take full advantage of all of your harware resource beyond a given point - but make sure you are using the 64bit version on 64bit windows

Unuseable? - I've been around long enough to remember when it took 30-45 miniutes to redraw in Photoshop, using the latest version and with a computer powerful for it's day - it's not clear what you are doing exactly, but if you push a program to it's limits it will slow down

if you do try corel or adobe it would be interesting to hear whether they are actually any quicker comparing like with like....

Besides any unlocked live filters will call it a day too
The program tries to redraw at every action you do.

true - locking and hiding layers you are not using might speed up the redrawing, [xara is not unique in that]; working in solo mode might help as well.. it depends on the actual workflow...

    Thanks for replies.
Yes using 64 Bit version on 64 bit Windows 10.
The locking of layers might have merit. I'll try.
Yes, agree: with this level of complexity, Corel and Illustrator might grind down also. Not my experience in the past though.
I'm not using any live filters.
Solo mode - I'll look at that.

One other thing might help - set the Live Drag Indicator to off - see the Help "Indicators".

I have also tried scaling when the View Quality was Outline.

With 18,000+ objects, layering was by far the most effective approach.
