You are probably talking about Digital Rights Management.

Effectively, each output (page, picture, web page) would have a digital signature that either describes the source, provenance and the like or restricts access without the appropriate licence.
Very hard to implement and patrol as it can always be hacked somehow.

Xara checks your licence is valid and which machines it is installed on and when. Together with IP address, Xara could nail miscreants.
Xara doesn't mark up its outputs though that might be its next big idea but the joy of all your traffic going through a Xara server might not inspire.
