A friendly hello in the round

Can someone give me information?
Which factor determines whether a movie shows a thumbnail in a placeholder (Xara Web Designer Premium) or not?
A video downloaded from the web shows me a thumbnail in the placeholder. But as soon as I edit this (MAGIX Video Deluxe Plus) and save it again, I can not get a thumbnail anymore.
Why?
