    At least the old, light-grey UI in XDP can still be 'summoned'.

    I know (because they say so) that the dark UI works better for some people but I find a light interface much easier to work with.

    could it all just be fashion ?

    dark interface was championed because: it apparently interferes less when photo editing always assuming the ambient lighting in your workroom is balanced; it uses less energy

    I prefer the choice; can't think of another mainstream app I use that forces the user to dark [the xara light 'summons' is really a developers hack]
