I agree that this is a serious problem with the tables... and personally I will still use your own table widget when the focus is importing or changing significant quantities of data. But for the occasional table where content is relatively static, I really think Xara's implementation is a nice start, and hope they will develop it.

I replied to the linked post. The Alt key now works to squash a photo when the normal handles are on.
I'm looking for the post that has info on what was supposed to be new, to check out those features. Can someone point me there?

Yes, tables! Under Insert, Tables, opens Online Content Catalogue to Tables under Components, Print & Web Components.
