It seems pretty clear as to the direction of the Xara development team. On the xara.com/products page it states:

"October 2017: We are pleased to announce that our distribution partners MAGIX Software will now handle all English language sales & support for our award winning desktop titles, so clicking on the Buy links below will take you to the MAGIX shop. Here at Xara we will focus on Xara Cloud, our collaborative content creation platform." (My bolding.)

Can you try signing in to your account again, see if you can now download 12.6 (assuming that is the version you purchased, and your Update Service has now expired). There was indeed a problem with downloading expired versions from within Xara accounts, which is now fixed. If you have multiple copies, make sure you pick the right one. I'm not sure if this is the problem you are facing though since you say you got version 15, whereas the problem we identified would have stopped you downloading any version that had expired from within your account.

checked in my account - I get an installer that installs the version that was current when my subscription started - this is version XDPX 12.2.0 [as expected]

now on the desktop I have installed version 12.6.2 which was the version that was current when my licence expired

you say that this version includes bug fixes and that, as I understand it, I am entitled to bug fixes on reinstall ? correct ?

because when I download XDPX 12.2 from my account onto my yet again clean installed windows laptop, when I update this it still goes straight to version 12.8 which is past the expiry date of my subscription so either way I do not get the bug fixes that you just said the system had been tweaked to provide unless I am seriously misunderstanding something here..

The problem I'm having is that I can't see your account to check what version(s) you own so I'm working blind and I'm finding it rather difficult to follow what you are describing. I don't know in what circumstance 12.2 would update to 12.8 but I'm thinking - can you not just download and install 12.6.0 onto your laptop, as you did on your desktop?? It will automatically update to 12.6.2, regardless of your expiry date.

I installed 12.2 on the desktop it updated itself to 12.6.2 and there it has stayed since my subscription ran out

how can I download and install 12.6

my account has 12.2.0

when wiping a computer clean, installing windows 10 from scratch, and installing either of these downloads, I get bumped up to ver 12.8 which locks

I take it that is not what is supposed to happen?

Kate, you might want to reread Dan's post. He's talking about Xara's development team -- not Magix's -- and its focus (as advertised by Xara and bolded by him).

trouble with that is, the message is not about development, nothing in the message says it is...the message is about the website focus... at least that is how I read it
