PDF Export Changes Text

Using Wingdings font to put a checkmark in a box on a form, Xara's PDF export changes the character. I can print it to a PDF printer and it works fine, but XP&GD15 changes it when actually exported as a PDF.

Anyone else seen this or alternately, can anyone reproduce it?

Don't have P&GD. Do have XDP. I cannot reproduce the issue.

What application are you viewing the PDF in?

Might be worthwhile to see a sample file for someone with your version of P&GD (so what version?)

However, Wingdings has always been a notoriously difficult font. RIPs historically had issues with it.

I have seen the same behavior with Xara Designer Pro. It seems to be a font issue.

A possible workaround: Instead of using Wingdings, use the Font Awesome symbols. Alternatively, convert them to editable shapes before exporting.

The font awesome symbols may be the way to go ... It's quite an old file, I didn't have font awesome at the time it was created. Thanks Ben. Good suggestion.

Except the font awesome checkmarks are really ugly and soulless ...!

Seems to work fine in XDP. I have 11 & 15 installed and both work fine.

What viewer? Adobe Reader/Acrobat or ?

They were exported as HIGH QUALITY 300 DPI from the FILE > EXPORT PDF menu item.

I viewed it in FOXIT, NITRO and PDF X-CHANGE EDITOR ... All of them show anomalies, but not necessarily the same anomaly, so it may be a reader issue (I dislike Adobe's principles, so don't use Adobe products, and don't have Acrobat Reader installed, so I can't test it in that).

However, as I said earlier, If it's printed via CUTEPDF printer it views with the checkmarks perfectly, so it's not JUST a reader issue.

Using Designer Pro 15, I exported your file and got the anomalies when viewed with both Foxit and Nitro Pro.

I think everybody is right that it is a font issue. However, if I export to PDF and in settings select convert font to shapes everything comes out fine.

Perhaps the version of Wingdings. Perhaps not using Wingdings. Dunno. But Wingdings isn't hitting the PDF.

I'm going to revisit this ...

This is definitely a XP&GD15 issue with the PDF export. The document was created in an old version originally, and has been updated over the years. If I take the same document into ANY other version of XP&GD ... right back to Xara Xtreme 5, it exports the PDF fine with the Wingdings font, but if it's exported from XP&GD15 it displays odd characters.
