This is a Shure 55 S microphone, drawn from a photo I got from the Web. Does anybody have an idea roughly when it was manufactured? My guess would be late Thirties or early Forties.

Hello

Shure.com says this

"A classic microphone with a nostalgic appearance, the 55SH Series II is perfect for performers who want the vintage look and feel of
the '50s and '60s"

It is based on the original Unidyne

One thing is for sure:

they didn't use a CAD system do develop it :-), not even a computer. Hard to believe in these fast paced times, but true

I love the 'old', heavyweight, rock solid tech pieces.

Try to kiss it to turn it alive :-)

The hosts of several 50's TV shows used microphones like the one in the picture. Arthur Godfrey, Dave Garaway, and Jack Parr come to mind. But, I guess that really gives away how old I'm getting

Great drawing.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I wonder why I didn't think to look on Shure's home page?

Thanks also to Jens and Soquili for your comments.

First of all, very nice rendering.

I'm not sure when this style of microphone was invented but I remember seeing ones like this in the 50's (the 1950's) when I was in high school. And they were used for quite some time after that.
