Hi Acorn and Egg I have had moderate success with your suggestions which I had to try. However after a lot of experimenting I have decided that as we are inserting about 6 or 7 new linked documents a week these methods will take too long as those that look after the site do this on a voluntary part time basis. Will be using Excel to Word route and import/paste as you suggested early on in your replies, so many thanks. I must say that Eggs videos are great.
JUST ONE LAST SIMPLE QUESTION HOW DO YOU POSITION A PASTED/IMPORTED DOCUMENT INTO A SPECIFIC POSITION ON A PAGE, AT THE MOMENT IT GOES CENTRALLY TO THE TOP OF A PAGE AND IT'S A BIT OF A PAIN TRYING TO DRAG INTO A POSITION LOWER ON THE PAGE. TRYING TO PASTE INTO A RECTANGLE DOES NOT APPEAR TO WORK FOR ME. Terry

Terry a pasted document is centred on the viewport to the application so use a smaller window and use the scrollbars.

A cleaner way might be to have a rectangle in place and select it and copy the contents of the MS Word document and then Paste replacing selection > Rich Text Format.

Hi Some time since I was on this subject and I know it most probably drives you mad, but it is not for the want of me trying. The subject of linking a page in Xara to a PDF or Word Page. The code that Acorn gave me I cannot get to work, hence coming back.
I have some simple questions first please:
    1. When the code is copied onto a Xara page will I see the target straight away or will I only see it when I go into Preview.
    2. Is it possible to link to a Word document rather than a PDF document.
    3. I assume this process is called “Linking” rather than “Embedding”
    4. Does Linking take up less space than embedding.
    5. This is the full name of the PDF file, would you mind writing this into the code so I can start again "C:\Users\terry\Documents\0 Rutlandcountyseniors dot com\Copy of Events & Fixtures 2018 14th March 2018 PDF.pdf"
Apologies for the protracted question but I really want this to work. Terry

OK, all the way back to Post#23.
from windows Explorer, open into the C:\Users\terry\Documents\0 Rutlandcountyseniors dot com\ folder.
Locate Copy of Events & Fixtures 2018 14th March 2018 PDF.pdf and drag it into your Xara Design page.
    Accept the Add Link option.

Alternatively, use File > Import and ensure the file type is PDF placeholder (*.PDF) and not PDF (*.pdf).

You will now have a PDF icon on your page. You need to keep this on the page and I advise you could make it available for viewers wanting to download it directly to their device.

If you now open the PDF Placeholder HTML code (body), you will see code like this:

    <a href="index_htm_files/Copy of Events & Fixtures 2018 14th March 2018 PDF.pdf"><img src="http://webdesigner.xara.com/pdficon_large.png" border="0"></a>

You then create a large rectangle and into its Placeholder HTML code (body) add:
    <object data="index_htm_files/Copy of Events & Fixtures 2018 14th March 2018 PDF.pdf" type="application/pdf" width=100% height=100%> <iframe src="index_htm_files/Copy of Events & Fixtures 2018 14th March 2018 PDF.pdf&embedded=true"></iframe></object>

The document will only appear in Preview.
If you link to anything, you use Link > Link to file. That actually embeds the file into the index_html_files/ folder.
Browsers have PDF viewing as part of their design; MS word viewers are not commonly available.

Upload the PDF file and I will create a Xara page for it.

Well done Acorn I'm sure now I have the basic principle I can modify accordingly. Details of link to page and code I put in. Not too sure what you meant by producing a Xara page.
