Default PDF EXPORT ABORTED PROX 12

    Hi-

    USING: Xara Designer Pro X 12.6.2.49603 DL x64 Apr 25 2017

Just this morning I finished off a few logo ideas and tried to
export a PDF only to get:

PDF FILTER ENCOUNTERED A GENERAL PROBLEM
    PDF Eport is aborted.

I figured it might have something to do with a transparency
setting on blacks, so I removed the transparency and got the same.

I then went through the following steps to NO avail.

    1. Closed the program and restarted. (No Luck)
    2. Rebooted Computer (No Luck)
    3. Went to the exe. file of Xara and ticked "Run as Administrator." (No Luck)
    4. Created a new page in Xara with just a simple drawing on it with a basic rgb color and tried exporting PDF (No Luck)
    5. Tried exporting all the different quality levels of PDF (No Luck)

I had been exporting PDF's just fine yesterday. The only nuance today of same project
was changing the colors to CMYK along with a transparency on one. The first time it
did export but the colors were OFF on the PDF.

Still, when trying number "4" above, I still got the warning of aborted.

HOPING someone may have encountered this and has found a solution
for I have deadlines looming large!

OH, I'm using WINDOWS 7, Pro 64 and have never encountered this issue
    prior to today.

ANY AND ALL thoughts or suggestions welcomed
    and of course greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Bob

It sounds like the PDF export filter has become corrupted.

What happens if you export using some of the other export options, PDF/X or Print Quality. or Email, etc.?

Thanks for the quick reply Gary.
Same situation with any type of PDF setting
and also trying new pages created with a basic elements
    or even blank page.

I would submit a ticket with this to Xara https://support.xara.com

The easiest solution might be for them to send you new PDF export filter files which you can replace your current filters.

Thanks Gary, yes, already did that this morning. My guess it'll be some time to hear back though.
Had half a thought of reinstalling the software but then noticed on the install file it was an earlier
version of 12. I guess the update to 12.6 or whatever didn't save in my folder.

I downloaded and ran the 15 trial and then tried exporting from that and it did without a problem.

HOWEVER...here's something you, with your vast experience, might be able to help me out with
    in regards to the export.

I created some CMYK colors in this logo experiment. I'm also using a custom Black, 70,50,30, 100
that I've used in the past. HOWEVER, I'm adding transparency to that black to achieve a gray.
(This is what I did this morning which perhaps screwed up my PDF filters as you say)

ANYWAY...I noticed the other 2 colors (a blue and a mauve) in the PDF (when trying ver 15) weren't correct. (faded)

I'm guessing PDF doesn't like adding a transparency to a custom CMYK black which then
affects the other colors in turn? OFF TOPIC HERE but I know of your acumen.

    Any thoughts appreciated!

    Thanks, Bob

Mike Wenzloff will probably have a better answer by my guess is that yes, CMYK colors do no want transparency. The best way to handle this is to recreate the gray using a percentage of black and or with a small amount of CMY added to the gray. But do not apply transparency to a CMYK color because this kind of defeats the purpose.

As far as displaying the CMYK colors switch the Window > Show Printer Colors > Simulate Print Colors. This is a quasi CMYK color space and closer to the actual printed colors.

    Figured as much.
I was trying to save a client
from a third color for printing
and figured I'd do black with transparency.

I've got him to try something else though so it's moot
at this point. However, good points.

NOW, if I could only export a PDF!
Hoping XARA folks get back to me soon or
someone here went through the same problem
    and found a fix.

So strange it happened just as a limited time
offer to upgrade came a' popping. Funny as well,
the upgrade popup said expires March 18 but when
I went online to see, it said March 8th. Or in other
    words tomorrow.....HURRY!

Didn't opt to do this yearly "apple like" updates and
obviously paying the piper. (Just a guess of course but
it's not my first rodeo) '-)

Transparency with cmyk is fine. No different than other color models.

I would need to see the file, and better understand what the goal is regarding a third color being used. You could upload the file and pm me a link.

    mwenz...
    thanks for offer but not
    doing that project now.

However, if I get a chance once
past this chaos, I may send anyway
    for future reference.

Although, I DO seem to remember sending
something to the printer awhile back and told
him it was just a black or blue at 50% or whatever
    and everything was just fine.

No, something happened with these filters
or whatever without my attempt to create
    a said PDF.

    Thanks, Bob
