Tread very carefully.

I put "Xara Designer Pro X 15 Steam Edition" into Google and most of the returns were for free downloads and cracks.

I would avoid at all costs. The Magix site is selling at £199 and this is £83.40 - can you trust such a fantastical offer?

I think it is an exploitation of the hyped Magix sales video purporting to show off an non-existent UI control.

But "Steam" is very well known seller(shop). I see no reason not to trust them. There are other products Magix.

I guess the question should be asked of magix on their forum/support

if you put 'steam' into their support page search you get a couple of results re activation [not required for steam versions] and registration - but nothing regarding differences [if any] - it may be the only difference is that you have to install and run through the steam proccess.. but that's a question for magix [unless anyone here actually uses steam for magix products]

Must admit I've used software from Steam. You must install Steam on your computer first to run the software. But why Xara software should require it I can't imagine to understand.

There's only one review:

I cant use this software.
When I try to start the application ,it shows startup tips and also an error message and app freezes.
I have a gtx 1080 ,32 gb of ram, i5 6600k and samsung ssd.....it should work.....
I just payed 119 euros for what.??an app that I cant use ?

I understand magix have been distributing some of their music programs through steam for a while; now they are in charge of xara distribution it looks like this has been extended to designer pro

advantage of steam? - lower purchase price?
disadvantange of steam? - you can only run the software on a computer that has steam installed and working on it ?

quick look showed that as well as designer pro 15, web designer 15 premiium and magix music maker 2017 are on offer.. music maker I am sure has been there for a while it's been mentioned on here before...

handrawn, thanks for locating it. #4 quotes "all steam versions of Xara are supported by our parent company Magix" so there is some recourse. I don't know about renewals though.
