Xara Designer Pro X10 - program quitting

Hello everyone.

I do a local newsletter for an SPCA. This is a 4 page newsletter with a lot of text and some graphical content. At the moment I'm having a very difficult time with the Program shutting down. My version number is 10.1.5.37 - I have not checked for an update as yet.

This program has been a workhorse in the past. I'm running Windows 10 - and copying and pasting text from places like facebook and other animal sights. There's a lot of copy and paste as 'unformatted' text. I have not added any new programs, configurations etc to the system software. My browser is 'Edge'.

The Program shuts down when I'm usually working on text - not graphics. If there's any ideas floating around please let me know. Many thanks,

Well, the first thing to try is shut down, then right click on the program icon and select Run as Administrator. You only need to do this once and it will either help. Or not.

If this does not work your file might have gotten corrupted.

Create a new document and try copying and pasting the content into the new document.

Try creating a new document and then copy and Paste in Place some of the content from the corrupt document into the clean document. Save frequently.

Copy the current design file, keeping your original well away from any of the following suggestions.
Make three copies: Copy1, Copy2, Copy3.

The aim is to isolate the fault down to a specific page.

Run Copy1. Add some unformatted text. Does the application bomb out on you?
If no, test some more but consider the copy as the new master.

Otherwise, re-open Copy1 and delete the last two pages and redo the above text manipulation.
If no problem, the fault lies in the discarded pages.
Open Copy2 and delete the last page.
Re-run this test.
If no problem, the fault was in page 4, otherwise page 3 is the villain.

Open Copy3 and delete all but page 1.
If OK, page 2 is the culprit.

You can use the divide and conquer approach on the offending page.

Another way is to add a page at a time to a new file as you have only the four in this case.
