Why are these sort of scams always Nigerian?

What I can't figure out is why if the email the lawyer representing the former ________ sends (I don't know you but I got your information on the Internet and I trust you with $X million) why they use gmail instead of an official company domain account. But you know, if someone trusts me with this large sum of money, who am I to say no?

$'s and £'s must flash in the minds of folk who get these e-mails as does greed and avarice are better terms for opportunity!

BTW, I have just inherited ten million pounds from a relative in Aussie and need a bank account to transfer the money so if you send me your bank account and sort code numbers, I will make sure you are well rewarded
