Default Space on website grew - files?

Yesterday my site was using 2.21 gb. Then I was told it might have a corrupt file so I delete it. When I saw that it messed up the slideshow on the homepage, I re-uploaded the site folders bccsc_net_web_files, forms, images and index_htm_files. There are lots of jpg and png files that have @2x and the original photo. Can I delete the originals or the @2x do that I don't have duplicates? The Images folder has lots and also index_htm_files do too. Ugh............

It now grew to 3.72 gb.

How do I determine what files are NOT needed or something that Web Designer did that might have made the site grow so large overnight?

    The site is bccsc.net

As always, thanks for your expertise!

Hi Acorn. I think video files and images, png, jpg.

My question really is to try to figure out why it went up so much. My guess is that I don't need the "images" folder and I am wondering why Xara makes at least 2 jpg files and if I can delete one.

I'm from Dreamweaver, so I make folders with all my files "video" "images" and store them there. And if anything crashes, I have all of it in the folders to help me fix things.

Am I helping you help me at all?

    Sue,

The images with the @2x in front of them are Retina High Definition Images. You can have Xara create or not create these in the Web Properties / Website tab. They are for use on iPads and other high definition machines. Instead of being 96dpi standard images they are 4 times the quality at 192dpi. You need to decide whether you want hi-res images or not.

I'm from Dreamweaver, so I make folders with all my files "video" "images" and store them there
You don't need individual folders like 'images' & 'videos' on your server. All these are stored in the index_htm_files folder that Xara creates. I would recommend uploading your videos to YouTube and linking to them in a placeholder.

Thanks, Egg, so very much. That's where my mistake came from that enlarged the website!

You also have very large pdf files on your site Sue. Presumably these aren't for commercial printing so export them as "Email or Web Distribution" if you're creating them in Xara.

You are correct, they aren't for commercial printing. I will have a look at them and re-export at the email or web selection.

    THANKS!
    Sue
