Default how to do gradient text

    hi all

i saw an image on the web and liked the text effect

I can easily reproduce it as long as my text doesn't go to two lines

    in the attached image:
    • A is the bitmap from the web
    • B is my rendition - this far it's exactly what I want
    • C is where the text goes to a second line and the gradient just extends down instead of copying down
    • D is where this drawback becomes even more evident

i must have missed something because i was sure i've done this before but i can't for the life of me remember how

it can be done with a tiled bitmap fill but the effect is killed if you change the text size or line spacing

here's the image of the above plus the xar file. i use xdpx11, please don't show how to do this in 365, i don't have it

the font is franklin gothic heavy, most people should have that or similar, arial black comes close

See if this works: type your text, apply the gradient to one letter, copy the letter, select remaining text and apply Paste Format.

Yep this works fine either if you apply gradient to one letter or a sentance then copy, paste attributes to the rest of your text.

Big Frank - It has been ages.

Make your text in two lines.

Alternatively add one Linear fill to the two lines but add extra colors along the fill path.

@boy & @stygg yes, you're right you can apply the gradient to multi-lines of text and it works, but as soon as you
    - alter line spacing
    - resize the text box
    - type text that forces a new line
you lose the effect on some of the text meaning you have to copy and paste attributes again

    @gary
1/ i've not been in good spirits lately so have avoided oforums
2/ yes you're right but writing a paragraph of text using multiple text lines or boxes is awkward at best
3/ once again this only works if you know your text will always be fixed size on x n° of lines

I was hoping xara could intuitively remember the formatting per letter and not apply it to the whole but it looks like a workaround has to be used

oh well, not to worry. thanks for your answers

wd be interested to know if this is effective in 365 or not
