    Default Mould in Xara

If I draw something in Xara, and want to use the Mould Tool - no problems.

However, if I have an image (a .jpg), is there any way of moulding that image?

For example, I might have a label that I want to wrap around a bottle, for which I would need something like the Mould tool.

So, is there a way of achieving this in Xara?

Yes, but only via a bodgy workaround, I'm afraid...

Use your bitmap to define an art brush and then draw a suitably curved line, stroke it with the brush and tinker with line width and stroke profiles to adjust the "moulding" effect.

Phil - What are the chances of the Mould Tool being updated. And the Bitmap Tracer. And other features that have been more or less ignored over the years?

It is also possible to use the bitmap tracer to create a vector image and mould that. I seem to remember giving an example of that in a tutorial many years ago.

    Hi,

I'm definitely not skilled in this, but I was wondering if AV Bros Page Curl wouldn't help. We received a demo version of this a few versions ago (X9, I think) and I bought the full version of the plugin and then never used it. Here is an attempt to roll up a photo to give you an idea as to some possibilities. I need to read the manual.

Here is a link to the AV Bros Gallery. Scroll down to see the label on the cylindrical CD box.

I've never got results that keep the clarity of the image, when using the bitmap tracer.
Unless someone has a tutorial that show a great result after the trace.

Would be good if the Mould Tool did, what most of us imagine it should do!

+1 I agree Rik, there have been times I wanted to manipulate a bitmap like that too.

Never give up. You will never fail, but you may find a lot of ways that don't work.
