Default reduce width of vertical navbar ?

When I want to narrow (only) the width of the vertical navbar, the whole rectangle will get smaller in width + heigt; I only want to change the width, not the height. A smaller font works but I don't want my font to become too small. I've tried to ungroup and all that, but didn't find any solution.

    How to control this ?

Apart from a smaller font you can't change the width only.

The minimum navbar width is controlled by the longest line of text

In the Nav Bar Properties menu uncheck [ ] Adjust Button Width to Labels.

Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the rectangle for the Home button.

Make any adjustments. The other buttons will change the match the changes you make to the Home button.

One strange thing with the button bar in my screen shot. When I adjusted the width, the text was Left justified. When I changed the justification to Left justified, then the text was Centered again.
