Effects slideshow question for Xara Designer Pro X9

Please excuse this rambling question from an occasional - and therefore incompetent - user of Xara Designer X9. All I do is maintain my company website: www.thinkingaboutcrime.com.

At the top of each page I have a widget which contains an effects slideshow. This slideshow has five pictures that dissolve into each other. I have recently tried to update one of the photos and add two new ones, and am having trouble.

I used the pointer tool to double-click on the widget and open it. This opened a separate window showing the five photos. I dragged and dropped a new photo over the first one, and it seemed to replace it without difficulty. I then selected the fifth photo and clicked on the Duplicate page button to create two additional pages. I then dragged and dropped new photos onto these pages. (The three new photos are all saved in the same folder as the original photos.) I then saved the widget, and then clicked on the Preview page button to see the page in action. All looked fine. I published the website. And the website itself has not changed at all - no new photos. I have repeated it all twice, and every time the preview shows it all working, while in real life it isn't. I suspect I have missed out a crucial stage...

Please can anyone enlighten me? I am adept at saving and publishing, as I do this most days to update the Newsroom page of the website. So what am I doing wrong here? Do I have to separately "publish" or upload the new photos?

It sounds like you have done all the right things.

Try refreshing the page in the browser (Ctrl + F5) Browsers often cache pages and so when you revisit a modified page it shows the old content.

I see 7 images in the slide show on the page link you posted.

Thank you so much for taking an interest and having a look. If you're seeing seven images, that's encouraging - is one of them of the new pound coins? I did try refreshing the page in my browser, as I thought that might be the problem - how long should it take to update, do you think? I made these changes about five hours ago...

Yes, first image is a Pound coin.

I am not sure how long it should take to update. This depends on your Internet service provider.

It's all working as it should. Your local browser has simply cached old versions of pages and images. Clearing the browser cache (Ctrl+F5) would have proved the upload has worked. Your ISP would have published almost immediately unless you are using something like CloudFlare or CDN service.

Many thanks to both who replied. I am still seeing the old version of the website, but I will simply be patient if others are seeing it as it should be - that's what matters. And it's only a cosmetic change - nothing crucial. I really just wanted to make sure that I was using the software properly. Thank you again.
