It seems that Halloween has morphed into the retail industry's vision of what it should be, with all the witches accoutrements, black cats and spooky trees and houses that are so prevalent today.
Some of the true meaning has been lost, similar to the way that the meaning of Christmas has.
I wanted to create something that had a feeling beyond spooky, that portrayed the sense of the unknown, what happens when we die, for example.

I clipped a couple of textures with transparencies into the graphic.

In Latin countries, the following day seems to carry this significance ie; The Day of the Dead. In the village where I live, the women are this week busy tidying the gravesides of departed loved ones, and replenishing flowers. Family members return from afar to their birthplace to pay their respects. It is quite a sombre feeling, possibly only to those of us here who are not steeped in the local traditions, with which we are unfamiliar.

Typing the word "sombre" activated the spell-checker. How long, I wonder before English usage is destroyed by technology?
