I accidentally pulled the toolbar off the lefthand side and now I can't put it back. I can dock it at the top but not on the side. I've tried with the Alt key and without. No joy. This is on XDP 11 BTW.

You can reset the UI by going to Window/Control bars and clicking the 'Reset' button. By doing so you will lose any customized settings and will have to reconfigure them.
Yes I was hoping to avoid having to do that as I'd just finished customising everything. I searched on this before posting and found one from someone back in 2007 with the same problem. Have they really just not bothered to fix this?
Works fine for me Jimi. Just drag it to the side & it docks on the side.

God knows I tried Egg. It just occurred to me that it might have something to do with the fact that I don't use the Xara UI, so I did a Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S and it reset the lot anyway so looks like my next hour or so is going to be spent redoing it all.
Oh dear!

Hi Jim,
If you hold the mouse on the floating toolbar, you should see a dotted outline of it. Drag it over the VERTICAL ruler, and then let go. This is a problem in Xara with the tool icons, too. you have to drop OVER, not near or next to. Hope this helps.
POhoto cippiing? Your method also resets ALL customizations you've made, such as any tools or commands you've put on bars.
Seems like a counter-productive thing to me.
What version of Xara do you use?
I'll give that a try if it happens again Barbara, although I'm pretty sure I dropped it over. I tried so many times I must have. It's probably my fancy Windows skins that caused the problem. In the end I switched to the Xara UI and back again. As you say I had to customise my toolbar again, but in reality it took less time than searching here and posting my original question.
