Can't create navigation bar from custom made button

Hi,

I just went through an extensive tutorial on creating a custom button with a mouse over effect. I successfully created a new button and the mouse over effect works having grouped them as a soft group. However when I select the new button the option to create a navigation bar is greyed out.

Two things can cause this. A button must have editable text, so converting text to editable shapes will not work. The text must be grouped to the button shape, even if the button shape has no outline and no fill.

Make sure both button states are on separate layers.

I am not sure what you mean by separate layers. The button is created using the mouse over and mouse off layer. The button has editable text.

I created the button this way.

Clicked on mouse off layer. Created shape and put text on it. Grouped together and created button.
Copied button.
Switched to mouse on layer. Pasted in place. Made changes to button appearance.
Soft grouped the button layers.

Now clicking/selecting button does not enable the create navigation bar.

OK Your button is FUBAR. I tried a few things and nothing worked.

I am not sure why. Start again and do not link your button to anything. Then see if it works.

Also I noticed—and this is so not right, Xara changed this a few versions ago, all the pages aside from the index page are added as a sub menu. So if you manage to get the button.nav bar to work, then you need to delete all the pages and add them under the main button instead of as a sub menu.

Does that make sense? I'm checking out for the night but I will check back in the morning.

I'll try again. Only able to work on this a few days at a time. Thanks for your help.

If a second time does not work is it a fault of the software?

No, but sometimes creating buttons is quirky and from time to time something gets corrupted and does not work as it is supposed to.

in Xara we know three kinds of text variants, there are:



To create a NavBar You haven't use text area because Xara isn't possible build from a text area NavBars.

Yuo use for the button a text area. This is the reason why!
